Teamcenter X is Teamcenter delivered as software as a service and operated by Siemens. The infrastructure, security, availability, updates, patching, monitoring, backup and recovery are the Siemens side of the line. Your team keeps control of what matters to the business: the data model, workflows, users, roles and groups, translation jobs, styles and queries, and supported customisations. Separate environments for test, training and migration are part of the service.

It starts small and grows. Preconfigured tiers get engineering data and process management running quickly, and the Premium tier opens the full Teamcenter portfolio. Below is what each tier adds, what the tools do day to day, and how a company on Teamcenter today moves across.

1. Start with the tier that fits

Essentials is for mechanical design teams: MCAD data management with revisions from inside the CAD tool, where-used, check-in and check-out, documents, 3D viewing with markup, discussions and tasks, and simulation data.

Standard adds structure management with revision rules, document management with Microsoft Office integration and PDF markup, simple requirements with trace links, simple change with a single change object, schedule management with a dashboard, out-of-the-box reports, PLMXML import and export, a consumer licence for non-authors, and tailored workflows on an extensible schema.

Advanced adds electrical and electronic data management, structure management with effectivity, classification with a prepackaged hierarchy, and applications such as the SAP S/4HANA integration, MBOM Manager and manufacturing planning. Premium is full PLM: any Teamcenter application, customisable, built your way.

2. PLM inside the design tools

Designers work in their own tools and Teamcenter X sits inside them. Mechanical integrations cover Designcenter and NX, Solid Edge, SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, AutoCAD and CATIA. Electronics and PCB cover Xpedition, PADS, Altium Designer and the Cadence tools. Electrical covers Capital and VeSys, and software covers Polarion.

Each domain manages, shares and reuses its design data in one place, with a single view of product data, process and status. CAD-neutral visualisation lets people beyond the authoring tools see the design. Product structure is managed to represent every configuration accurately, and in the Advanced tier a common part library lets ECAD and MCAD designers work from the same parts.

3. Change, documents, workflows and schedules

Teamcenter X ships with workflows ready to run: document approval, simple change release, freeze, release and obsolete for MCAD, and simple requirement release. Reviewers comment, approve or reject parts and documents, and cross-functional review teams are managed in the system. Additional workflows can be configured through a services engagement.

Change runs end to end, from a simple change process up to certified CMII, with impact analysis on related items and full traceability. Documents are created alongside the product, with PLM access inside Microsoft Office and review and markup in PDF.

Program and project management adds checkpoints, schedules and a view of status and forecast, connected to requirements, the multi-domain BOM and the designs.

4. BOM, Copilot and the BOM Agent

The multi-domain BOM is the single source for every item that makes up the product across mechanical, electrical and electronic design, with a comprehensive view of the product across the business.

Teamcenter Copilot works in natural language, grounded in your own data and under Teamcenter security. It analyses any open document, chats with collections of files, answers product support questions and helps in manufacturing, quality and MBSE. Search structured data in plain language, upload a photo of a part to find matching CAD models, or dictate a report on any device.

The BOM Agent acts on your behalf and asks permission before it changes anything: it configures, searches and edits BOM structures, authors change requests in context and analyses related objects.

5. Operated by Siemens, controlled by you

Teamcenter X runs on a container-based architecture on Kubernetes, with dynamic resource provisioning, high availability and customer code isolated in separate containers. The security framework covers MFA, secrets management, encryption at rest, third-party penetration testing, vulnerability scanning and patching. The commercial cloud is certified to ISO 27001 and SOC and complies with GDPR.

A service level agreement defines availability, support hours, backup and restore commitments and a customer success resource, with Standard, Silver and Gold service levels. New features arrive twice a year; a full upgrade runs once a year after alignment with you.

Lightera forecasts a 25 percent reduction in development time. A consumer electronics manufacturer that moved from on-premise Teamcenter saw structured data exports 99 percent faster and part searches 65 percent faster.

How to get it

Teamcenter X is a subscription, in Essentials, Standard, Advanced or Premium, with integrations and applications added as needed. Moving between tiers is supported, and a start package covers the first move up from Essentials.

If you run Teamcenter on premise today, the Siemens Assess, Align and Transform method moves it across in phases, programme by programme, using AI-assisted analysis and high-speed transform tools. Existing solutions are reused where Siemens guidelines allow, customisations are reduced in favour of out-of-the-box capability, and data is validated by your users before go-live. Older versions move without an upgrade first.
